Electrical Installation Condition Reports & Portable Appliance Testing

From 1st July 2020, properties in England will need an Electrical Installation Condition Report before a new tenancy begins, OR every five years.

  • Mandatory in England and Scotland
  • Digitally Accessible Certificate
  • Testing fuses & circuit breakers
  • Engineer compliant to carry out work in accordance with UK law

Electrical Installation Certificate / Domestic Installation Certificate

This certificate is issued to the customer on the completion of any electrical installation works. This document details the type of work which was carried out, any deviations from the regulations as listed in BS7671, as well as who designed, installed and tested the works; in addition to the date when the next inspection is due.

Periodical Test, Inspection & Report

This is used for the testing of existing electrical installations that have come up for their next due inspections, or for installations that do not have a current installation certificate in place yet.

Minor Works Certificate

The Minor Works Certificate is used for small works such as; additional sockets or lights that are not in special locations. This particular certificate cannot be used for the provision of a new circuit however.

Full electrical testing is carried out on the supply and internal fixed wiring of your property/business to the latest regulations BS7671 2008, and IEE wiring regulations. This will include the 'distribution board', all 'circuit breakers' and associated RCD's, the complete earthing arrangement of the installation with all cables, sockets, switches and fixtures checked; for confirmation of sound working order and compliance.

At E5 Electrics we can usually offer a very quick service if it is required with night time call out, if access during the daytime hours is restricted due to business requirements.

The usual electrical tests performed include:

- Visual inspection of the installation.

- Continuity of (cpc) & Earth conductors.

- Continuity of the ring circuits.

- Polarity.

- Insulation resistance of conductors.

- Earth loop impedance test (in order to determine the quality of your earthing).

- Testing of RCD's to check that they trip at the correct time, and current rating.

- Functional switching and isolation, to ensure the switches actually switch the 'live' conductor, and not the 'neutral'.
